Methodology and exclusions

The current pot grows monthly using (1 + annual growth / 12) x (1 - annual charges / 12). Personal and employer contributions are added at the end of each month. Any contribution increase is applied annually. Today's-money values are discounted monthly by inflation.

This tool does not automatically include State Pension, defined-benefit pensions, pension tax rules or allowances, investment volatility, drawdown tax, provider-specific charges, or your individual circumstances.

How to use the UK Pension Calculator

Enter your age, existing defined-contribution pension pot and monthly payments; the results update locally in your browser.

1

Add your current pension position

Enter your current age, intended retirement age and current pension pot. Retirement age must be later than current age.

2

Enter monthly contributions

Add personal and employer contributions. Choose whether the personal figure already includes tax relief; when it does not, the illustration uses a stated 20% basic-rate gross-up.

3

Set investment assumptions

Set annual investment growth, inflation, charges and any annual contribution increase. The calculator applies growth and charges monthly and pays contributions at month end.

4

Compare results and scenarios

Review the nominal pot, its value in today’s money, contributions, investment growth, low/base/high return scenarios, the chart and annual table. The withdrawal figure uses your editable rate only as an illustration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a guaranteed pension value?

No. It is an illustration using fixed assumptions. Actual investment returns, inflation, charges, contributions and pension rules can vary.

How are tax-relief contributions treated?

You can say your personal contribution already includes tax relief. If it does not, the tool applies a simple 20% basic-rate gross-up. It does not calculate your personal tax position.

Does the calculator include my employer contribution?

Yes. Enter it separately as a monthly amount and it is added at the end of each projected month.

What does value in today’s money mean?

It discounts the nominal pot by your annual inflation assumption, compounded monthly, to illustrate its purchasing power in today’s pounds.

Are State Pension and defined-benefit pensions included?

No. Add only the defined-contribution pension figures you want to illustrate; State Pension and defined-benefit pensions are excluded.

Is my financial information sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs locally in your browser and this tool does not transmit entered financial values.
