Calculation methodology

Monthly interest uses the nominal annual rate divided by 12. Fees are added to total payable but are not financed. Overpayments shorten the schedule, and no payment can exceed the remaining balance plus that month’s interest.

This is an illustration, not a lender APR quote. Check lender payment dates, fees, overpayment allowances and early-repayment charges.

How to estimate loan repayments

Use the calculator to explore a fixed-rate loan repayment scenario before comparing lender terms.

1

Choose a currency and enter the loan details

Choose GBP, USD, or EUR for display, then enter the amount borrowed, annual interest rate, and repayment term. Selecting a currency does not convert the values you enter.

2

Include fees and an optional overpayment

Add any upfront fees and an optional monthly overpayment. Fees are added to total payable but do not increase the interest-bearing balance in this illustration. The last payment is automatically capped at the balance and that month’s interest.

3

Compare the estimate and schedule

Review the required payment, optional overpayment, combined first payment, total payable, interest, repayment time, and interest saving against the no-overpayment scenario. Open the repayment schedule to see annual checkpoints and the final payment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the monthly payment show?

The calculator separates the required payment from the optional monthly overpayment and shows their combined payment. The final payment can be lower because it is capped at the remaining balance plus that month’s interest.

Are fees included?

Fees are included in total payable but are not added to the borrowed principal or monthly interest calculation. Some lenders may finance fees differently.

What does overpayment change?

An extra monthly amount can reduce the estimated repayment time and interest paid. The calculation caps any final payment, so an excessive entered overpayment cannot be charged after the loan is cleared. Check your lender’s overpayment limits and early-repayment charges.

Is this an APR quote?

No. It uses the entered nominal annual rate divided by 12 for monthly interest. APR can include fees, compounding and lender-specific timing, so this is not an offer or lender quotation.

Can the interest rate be zero?

Yes. A zero-rate scenario divides the principal evenly across the term.

Does it model late payments?

No. It assumes payments are made on schedule and the rate remains constant.

Why can lender results differ?

Lenders may use different compounding, fees, rounding, and payment-date conventions.
