How to plan a savings goal
Choose a currency, set the amount you want to reach and the time available, then use the monthly plan, breakdown and projection to review your assumptions.
Choose a currency and enter your starting point
Choose GBP, USD or EUR, then enter the target amount and the savings you already have. The calculator does not convert currencies, so use one currency consistently.
Set the time, growth and optional costs
Enter a target term of at least one month and a non-negative annual interest rate. You can optionally add inflation to grow the target over time and an annual percentage or fixed annual account fee. Leave both at zero or no fee to use the base estimate.
Review and share the plan
Review the rounded and exact monthly saving, contributions, interest, fees and inflation-adjusted target. Interest is compounded monthly from a nominal annual rate divided by 12, with contributions made at the end of each month. Use the visual breakdown or expandable yearly/monthly projection, then copy or print the plan if useful. If your current savings already meet the target, the required monthly saving is zero.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the required contribution mean?
It is the estimated amount to save at the end of each month to reach the target.
Does it use my current savings?
Yes. Current savings are treated as the opening balance and grow throughout the term.
What if I am already above the target?
It shows a goal-already-reached result and a required monthly saving of zero.
Are interest rates guaranteed?
No. The result depends on the rate assumption and actual rates can change.
Can I change the deadline?
Yes. A longer term generally reduces the estimated monthly contribution.
Does it include inflation?
Yes, optionally. An annual inflation assumption increases the target monthly over the selected term. Leave it at 0% to keep the base calculation unchanged.
Does it include account charges?
Optional annual percentage and fixed annual account fees can be included. They are deducted monthly from the projection.
