About this tool
How it works
This calculator works backwards from your monthly take-home target. It repeatedly evaluates gross annual salaries with Jobomba’s UK PAYE rules engine until it finds the lowest amount that meets the target.
The estimate includes Income Tax, employee National Insurance, salary-sacrifice pension contributions and selected student loan repayments. It does not model every payroll adjustment, benefit or non-employment income source.
Use the tax code shown on your payslip where possible. Your employer’s payroll, HMRC notices, pay timing and personal circumstances can make your actual pay differ from this planning estimate.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the UK Required Salary Calculator calculate?
It estimates the lowest gross annual salary that produces your chosen monthly take-home amount under the selected PAYE assumptions.
Are the results guaranteed?
No. Actual outcomes, tax rules, rates and charges can differ.
Which deductions are included?
The estimate includes Income Tax, employee National Insurance, salary-sacrifice pension contributions and any selected student loan plan.
Does this replace professional advice?
No. Seek qualified advice for decisions specific to your circumstances.
Why do I need a tax code?
Your tax code determines the allowance or tax treatment used by PAYE. Enter the code from your payslip for a closer estimate.
Why might my payslip differ?
Payroll timing, HMRC notices, benefits, deductions, tax-code changes and period-specific rounding can all affect the actual amount you receive.
Is my information stored?
No personal account is required. Your entered assumptions are sent to Jobomba only to calculate this estimate and are not saved by this tool.
