UK Multiple Employment Salary Calculator

Estimate combined take-home pay for two UK employments. Each job is calculated separately using its tax code, then combined.

Your two employments

Enter annual employment income. Each job is calculated with its own tax code and National Insurance threshold; the default second-job code is BR so the Personal Allowance is not applied twice.

Your main job normally carries your Personal Allowance tax code.

How to use the multiple employment calculator

Enter your main and second job pay, then review the per-job and combined estimate.

Enter your main job

Use the salary and tax code shown on your primary employment payslip.

2

Enter your second job

The default BR tax code avoids applying the Personal Allowance twice; use your payslip code if different.

3

Add pension and additional pay

Enter salary-sacrifice pension percentages, bonuses, and overtime for the employment that pays them.

4

Review the estimate

Check each employment and the combined take-home estimate. Payroll timing and HMRC adjustments can change actual payslips.

About this tool

How two jobs are estimated

This tool estimates two employments separately. Each job uses its own tax code and employee National Insurance thresholds, reflecting separate employer payrolls. The combined result is the sum of both estimates.

Student loan deductions are also estimated through each employer payroll. The total can differ from a final annual position because of payroll timing and reconciliation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is my second job set to BR?

BR applies the basic Income Tax rate to all pay from that employer. It is a common second-job code and prevents the calculator applying the standard Personal Allowance twice.

Can I use a different tax code for my second job?

Yes. Enter the tax code shown on that employment's payslip. The BR default is only a common starting point for a second employment.

Is National Insurance combined across my jobs?

This V1 estimate calculates employee National Insurance separately for each employment, as separate employers normally operate separate payrolls.

Are student loan repayments combined across my jobs?

The estimate calculates student loan deductions through each employer payroll and then combines them. A final annual reconciliation can differ.

How are bonuses and overtime treated?

Enter each amount against the employment that pays it. The tool includes it in that employment's estimated gross pay and deductions.

Does salary sacrifice apply to both jobs?

You can enter a separate salary-sacrifice pension percentage for each employment. It is applied only to the relevant employment in this estimate.

Will this exactly match my payslips?

No. It is an annual estimate. Payroll timing, cumulative tax codes, benefits, deductions, and HMRC adjustments can change actual payslip deductions.
